Brenda L. Schiavone, a nurse for 30 years, specializing in psychiatric mental health nursing, nursing administration and nursing education, joined Family Psychiatry of The Woodlands in June 2009. She is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at Texas Woman’s University. Brenda is active in numerous professional organizations, including The Texas Nurse’s Association, Houston Group Psychotherapy Society, American Psychiatric Association, Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurses of Houston and Sigma Theta Tau International. She currently serves as Vice-President of the Eta Phi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau for Houston Baptist University. She was a recipient of The Excellence in Nursing Education Award of Sigma Theta Tau International and a 2007 recipient of the Texas Nurses Association District 9, Nursing Excellence Award. She is currently a Nurse Reviewer for the Pathway to Excellence Program of™ the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Brenda received her graduate degree from the University Of Texas School Of Nursing, and her undergraduate degree from Prairie View A&M University. She has presented at national conferences on psychiatric mental health nursing.

Her special interests are psychotherapy, the treatment of depression; including post partum depression, pain assessment in the psychiatric patient, the treatment of young adults, and the utilization of evidenced based practice in psychiatric/mental health.

She has fulfilled her passion for nursing as a staff nurse, nurse manager, nurse administrator, nurse educator and most recently as a clinical nurse specialist.
